Nowadays, the arts are becoming an essential part in people’s lives. Although I agree that it is important to spend money on public services, I would argue that government spending on the arts is not a waste of money.
There are some reasons why an amount of money should be spent on public services. To begin with, public services can determine the quality of life that we want. For instance, if the government does not invest enough money in hospitals, this can adversely affect people’s health in society. Likewise, our children may not be well educated without government expenditure. In addition, when there is no government money, the poor will face more difficulties in their lives because they depend on such services.

However this does not mean that the arts should be ignored. It is clear that without government support, many arts institutions have difficulty in making much profit, and some places such as theatres could be closed. Furthermore, the arts have a great influence on our quality of life. In fact, there are a large number of people who enjoy going to the movie theatre to get great pleasure, so it is important that the government should invest money in such places. In this way, these institutions can continue to provide entertainment for people.
In short, while it is important that the government spend money on public services, I also believe that money invested in forms of enjoyment is also necessary.
